Art for Today – more Shanghai!

Shanghai – this one is all me. A book I wrote, drew, inked, colored and lettered, as well as self-published back in 1997. I really wanted to do more in the field of comics other than just ink, and I couldn’t find anyone who would give me a chance, so I just did it myself. Still one of the projects I’m most personally proud of.

Art for Today – Inking Steve Gerber’s Sludge!

A page I inked from Sludge #10, for the Malibu Ultraverse. Pencils by Robb Phipps. They got my name right on the cover, but the interior lists Gary Martin as the inker. Working on this book, I got to know Steve Gerber a bit, and he later had me do some sketches for his Nevada series when it was still just an idea. He had a really unique creative edge, and was a big supporter of mine with Malibu, and it’s sad he’s no longer with us.

Inking for Today – over Joe Staton on Prime!

Today’s pages are from Prime 21, back in the Malibu Ultraverse days, over the pencil art of the legendary Joe Staton. This was a fun book to ink, because it was a bit of a different style than I was used to.  I also had fun with a sign on one of these pages, and slipped in a little one that read “Picard better than Kirk.”  Someone mentioned it in a letter to the editor that they found it funny, so it was noticed by at least one person.
