Happy new year!

2022 was a crazy ride for me. I made a lot of progress on things in life, but I’m also getting older and my priorities are changing. I don’t want to work so hard chasing artistic dreams that will never be fulfilled. I’m not giving up, but I just want to enjoy what I do, rather than focus on making things commercial successes. If I put more books out, it will be because I want to, not to make money from them.

That being said, I do plan to create more comics this year. I have an entire second issue of Extraterrestrial and half a second book for Shanghai in the can. I want to get enough books in each series to do a trade paperback for them. I can’t really make trades without the single issues, so it would be nice to have both. I don’t sell that many copies, so I’m doing it more for a creative release for myself, and I feel much better having come to terms with that.

Marvel and DC have not contacted me to ink anything in a dog’s age. Over the last few years, I sent them both updated samples, and I don’t get any callbacks at all. I was told a while back that I have a “wonderful 90’s style”, so I guess I’m a relic of days gone by. This is part of the reason I’m relying more on AI to produce new art, as I just don’t want to sink endless hours into material that not many folks care about. I want to tell stories, and I don’t want to take a year to do a single book. I’ll write more about my feelings on this subject later.

I also want to continue with the drone photos and videos. I’ve thought of being more commercial with that, but again,. I don’t want another job. If I get paid by a client to do work, that’s great, but my intention is to fly for fun and see what happens.

I would like to blog more, hopefully at least one post a day for the entire year. This site hasn’t gotten much traffic historically, but I would like to change that. I want to be more open with my thoughts and interests and see if I can spark some discussion. It’s another one of those things that I’m going to spend time with that hardly anyone will ever see.

So, that’s where I am at the moment. How about you?
