As both a musician and an artist, I love it when my two passions collide. My latest piece is a direct result of that collision, inspired by the music of my band, The Last Electric Rodeo. This 11″ x 17″ ink drawing on Bristol board channels the dark, evocative energy of our songs “Black Rose” and “Jornada del Muerto,” and I’m thrilled to finally share the finished version!
“Black Rose” and “Jornada del Muerto” are two of my favorite tracks that we perform. They’ve got that perfect blend of haunting melodies and driving rhythms that really gets under your skin. I wanted to capture that same feeling visually, and this is what emerged. The songs paint a vivid picture, and I found myself drawn to imagery associated with the Day of the Dead. The result is a piece that I think is both beautiful and a little bit unsettling, much like the music that inspired it.
This drawing was an interesting departure from my usual superhero and comic book work. It allowed me to explore a different aesthetic, and I’m really pleased with how it turned out. There’s a raw energy to this piece that I think captures the spirit of The Last Electric Rodeo’s music.
